  • Lent 2021

    • St. John the Baptist, St. John Neumann, and Corpus Christi parishes invite you to join us throughout the coming weeks to celebrate Lent, a season of reflection and repentance.

Palm Burning—February 16, 6:00 pm at St. John the Baptist
Following a simple prayer service, old palms are burned and prepared for distribution on Ash Wednesday.

Ash Wednesday Mass—February 17, 8:30 am & 7:00 pm at St. John the Baptist
Ashes are received on the forehead in the shape of a cross as a reminder of Christ’s humility and our call to share in His mission. Ash Wednesday is not a holy day of obligation, but it is a day of fast and of abstinence (one main meal and no meat). Good Friday is also a day of fasting and abstinence. More about this is on page 3.

Taizé Prayer—February 23, 7:00 pm at Corpus Christi
Developed by the monks of the Taizé community of France this a contemplative style of prayer uses chants and other simple musical melodies, accompanied by symbols and candles, to focus prayer. This prayer service is a time to listen, to reflect, to allow the Spirit of God to work within you.

Evening Prayer—March 9, 7:00 pm at St. John the Baptist
March 16, 7:00 pm at Corpus Christi

The final prayer of the Liturgy of the Hours, Evening Prayer helps to sanctify the day through praise and thanksgiving to God for the day just past while offering intercessions for the needs of the world.

Reconciliation Service—March 23, 7:00 pm at St. John Neumann
Reconciliation is a liturgical action, bringing to life biblical realities of healing and forgiveness. Reconciliation restores the soul broken by sin and renews us as the forgiven, redeemed children of God.

Mondays & Tuesdays of Lent: Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament following the 8:30 am Mass. Adoration continues through Wednesday morning at 8:00 am. You are welcome to spend as little or as much time as you like in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament.

Wednesdays of Lent: Confession at 6:00 pm, followed by Stations of the Cross at 6:30 pm, immediately followed by Mass (around 7:00 pm). Come for one, two, or all three. Wednesday of Holy Week (March 31) we will celebrate Tenebrae instead.

    • St. John the Baptist Novena

A Novena is a traditional Catholic prayer. Usually beginning nine days before a special feast day, the prayer petitions God daily, often through the intercession of a specific saint.

Novenas date back to the time of the Apostles after Jesus' ascension. The Apostles, along with the Blessed Virgin Mary, gathered in an upper room and prayed for the nine days leading up to Pentecost.

St. John the Baptist's feast day is June 24! Click here for the novena beginning June 16.

    • Vocations Chalice Prayer Ministry

The vocations chalice will take a temporary pause traveling to families.

This ministry is meant to encourage our parish families to pray for vocations and to promote vocations within our own families. The chalice serves as a visible reminder to pray and bring the Mass home with us- the joy, the gratitude, and the mission to share the love of Christ with others in our families and our workplaces.

      How does it work?
Each week, a family will have the opportunity to commit to a week of vocation-centered prayer and take the chalice home with them. Together as a family, the household gathers to pray for vocations at least once a day. This could be first thing in the morning, at a meal, or perhaps before bed.

If you would like to sign your family up to host the chalice for a week, you can sign up at the Welcome Center! Madison Burton will be in touch with you to schedule a week. After spending a week praying with your family, we ask that you bring the chalice back to the parish office by Friday at Noon in order to pass it along to the next family. This ministry is a hands-on way to grow in your prayer life as an individual and as a family. We encourage you to give it a try!

If you'd like to pray along side us even when you aren't hosting the chalice, find prepared prayers here or make up your own!

    • "As I cannot say all of them, and do not know which to choose, I just act like a child who can't read; I tell God, quite simply, all that I want to say, and He always understands. Prayer, for me, is simply a raising of the heart, a simple glance towards Heaven, an expression of love and gratitude in the midst of trial, as well as in times of joy;in a word, it is something noble and supernatural expanding my soul and uniting it to God."
