Through the 2007-2008 Annual Fund Drive, a parish family made a generous donation of $10,000 to establish an endowment fund for St. John’s Parish. The family making the gift wished to remain anonymous. At the suggestion of the family, the endowment fund was named to recognize Fr. Charlie Bowes, a former pastor here at St. John’s.
Fr. Charlie was pastor at St. John’s from 1983-1998. Under his leadership and vision, Fr. Charlie guided the parish through the process to build the new church (our current church) during the 1990s. After his service to St. John’s, he was assigned to be pastor at Our Lady of the Rosary Parish in Greenhills. After a battle with cancer, Fr. Charlie died in January 2008.
Revenue generated from the Endowment Fund will be used to fund expenses associated with the liturgical ministries, buildings and grounds, and other needs of the parish. Some of these items include:
The Music Ministry (piano/organ upkeep, instruments, musical scores and other materials).
Church building beautification, maintenance, and capital improvements.
Liturgy and worship expenses - wine, hosts, altar cloths, priest’s vestments, etc.
After the above expense are met, the endowment revenue may also be used for other needs throughout the parish such as capital improvements/maintenance, ministry expenses, and debt reduction.
How is revenue generated from an Endowment Fund? By definition, an Endowment Fund is a pool of assets/funds that is held in perpetuity where the principal is not used. Only the interest income earned from the principal is used to cover expenses. The endowment fund is housed at the Archdiocese where it is part a larger pooled-income fund to earn a higher rate of interest income.
